We’ve been through so much with Steven Curtis Chapman over the course of his nearly 25-year career that he feels like family. From those early mulleted years through his transformation to Dove Award winner, adoption advocate and grieving father, SCC has always let us in. No matter where he was in his journey, he chronicling those experiences in his songs, giving us a glimpse of the man behind the music and creating a soundtrack for our own lives in the process.

For his latest, aptly titled re:creation, Chapman pored over those past albums, finding new meaning in lyrics penned long ago, when he still had no idea what life would hold. The result is a fresh look at a handful of old favorites. Remakes of hits like “For the Sake of the Call,” “Dive” and “Live Out Loud” are each given a more stripped down, organic treatment (flute and ukulele, anyone?). The album is also sprinkled with several new tracks and a cover of “Morning Has Broken,” done as a duet with Chapman’s son Caleb.
